The fabulous Matt Tolentino and Oak Cliff music star, Robert Edwards will perform a program of salon style music. The program will take the audience through the ragtime era into Tin Pan Alley finally leading up to the dawn of the jazz age. Edwards will play our vintage grand piano and Tolentino will be on clarinet, sax and vocals.

This Salon Series event is generously sponsored by Marguerite Domatti and Gay Addington, long time supporters of the Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts and are emeritus members of the Board of Directors.

Internationally renowned actor, writer, comedian and former mayor of Reykjavik, Iceland. Jón Gnarr, will make his Dallas debut at Turner House to support the publication of his latest book. The Indian, published by Dallas-based translation publishing house, Deep Vellum. Gnarr is currently Writer in Residence at Rice University focusing on writing and speaking on issues he holds most dear: world, peace, sexual and gender equality, freedom for writers and journalist, and performing stand up comedy.

Ties that Bind: Contemporary Texas Painting

The Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts is pleased to announce that Houston’s renowned Bill Reaves Gallery returns to be the first program of its popular Salon Series for Spring 2015.
On Thursday, February 19, Gallery Director Sarah Foltz will present “Ties that Bind: Contemporary Texas Painting” as the Salon Series program. This engaging discussion will trace common elements of Texas painting from the latter half of the twentieth century through the present, looking to the influence on Contemporary Texas Regionalist artists’ by artists from the 1950s and will discuss how their work continues to address local subject matter to evoke universal chords.

The Salon lecture occurs Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 7:30; doors open at 7 pm. Tickets are $20 for non-members and $15 for Society members and students.

AlongWinter Salon 2 with the Salon Series presentation, from February 17-22, the Gallery will offer works by these Texas contemporary artists for sale at Turner House: Randy Bacon (Albany), Mary Baxter (Marfa), David Caton (Utopia), Margie Crisp (Elgin), Keith Davis (Austin), Charles Ford (Houston), Pat Gabriel (Fort Worth), Billy Hassell (Fort Worth), Lee Jamison (Huntsville), Rob Kendrick (Austin), Laura Lewis (Mason), William Montgomery (Elgin), Noe Perez (Corpus Christi), Jeri Salter (Round Rock), and Debbie Stevens (Cypress).

Turner House and Reaves will also host a gallery reception on Friday, February 20, 2015, 6:00pm –   9:00pm, with some artists in attendance, and a gallery talk on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 1:30 pm.
