An opportunity like this comes once in a lifetime! The Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts is celebrating the 100th birthday of its home, the historic Turner House. Built in 1912 by East Texas oilman J.P. Blake, atthe then-astronomical cost of $50,000, Turner House is a storied, landmark mansion in the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Winnetka Heights.
We have inaugurated the Centennial Campaign and are inviting a select group of individuals and organizations to join us in this exciting celebration by joining the Council of 100. The Council of 100 is the group that will be honored in perpetuity as the group that contributed to the celebration and continued restoration of this historic Oak Cliff landmark.
The Centennial celebration will begin February 23rd with a performance by Matt Tolentino (of the Singapore Slingers) at Turner House. Board Chairman, Scott Chase, will announce a year-long schedule of special events that will commemorate the 100 years of art and community activities which Turner House has hosted.
During its first 50 years Turner House served as the private home of the Blake & Ferguson families, as a boarding house during World War II, and as the home of the Oak Cliff Lutheran Church. In 1957 The Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts became the owner and conservator of the house and grounds.
“We are fortunate to have this beautiful home as a reminder of Oak Cliff’s early 20th century splendor,” said Chairman Chase. “As with any 100 year old home, Turner House is in need of many repairs. We plan to completely restore this house so it may continue as a community asset for another century.”
