Please join the Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts on the weekend of September 16-17 for our annual fundraising event. Saturday evening, September 16 from 7-9pm, will be a reception with featured speaker Katherine Wagner, Business Council for the Arts.  Tickets for the reception are on sale now.

Ticket prices are $85.00 for individual tickets (includes an individual membership to the OCSFA) and $50.00 for OCSFA members.

This year marks the 91st Anniversary of the founding of the Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts. The Society was established in Dallas in 1926 at the home studio of artist Frank Reaugh, one of Texas’ most famous and influential artist. Inaugurated in 2013, Rising Star highlights “Rising Star” artists nominated by Dallas area art galleries. Join us in Underwriting one of Oak Cliff’s finest Art events and at the same time promoting undiscovered talent. Rising Star raises money in our continuing efforts to restore Turner House.

Rose Kingsley is an opera great turned jazz performer.  She will present an evening of Johnny Mercer music, specially arranged by the legendary Bob Corwin, son-in-law, pianist, and collaborator for Mercer.  Rose Kingsley has been celebrated for this program nationally and we are excited to bring her to OC.

The Dallas/Oak Cliff tornado of April 2, 1957 killed ten people and injured over 200 with a path of damage that stretched from South Polk Street, through Winnetka Heights, into West Dallas and Arlington Park/Love Field. To mark the 60th anniversary of the storm, Mark Doty, Chief Planner with the City of Dallas, will present a comprehensive account of one of the most remembered, yet overlooked, events in modern Dallas and Metroplex history. Mark will place special emphasis on destruction through Oak Cliff and Winnetka Heights.

The Oak Cliff Film Festival was established in 2011 and has received national acclaim from different sources including The New York Times and Filmmaker Magazine.  Barak Epstein, co-founder of the Oak Cliff Film Festival and operator of the Texas Theater, will preview some of the programs selected for the 6th annual OCFF, scheduled for June 8-11, 2017.

KEVIN SLOAN “CRUSADE AGAINST UGLINESS” The life & Work of George Kessler 1862 – 1923“Fjord”

George Kessler characterized his 1911 Plan for Dallas with the proclamation, “Crusade Against Ugliness”.
Landscape Architect and Urban Planner Kevin Sloan will present an overview of Kessler’s remarkable innovations and accomplishments in city planning, parks and thoroughfares for Dallas and Kansas City. Kessler’s influence on later planning concepts will also be covered with Sloan’s Kessler inspired proposal for the DFW Branch Waters Network – a concept got the future.
